I'm Rachel, the owner of The People's Art Store. I believe in the power of art as a means to living an enriched life, and as such, that everyone should have access to materials. This is why I founded the People's Art Store.

The People's Art Store is a community-focused hub dedicated to making art financially accessible for all. Beyond offering a diverse range of high-quality supplies catering to both professionals and beginners, the store empowers creativity by breaking down financial barriers. It provides engaging art classes for all levels and offers the option to book classes for events. Actively involved in the community, the People's Art Store organizes events to celebrate and showcase local talent, fostering connections and appreciation for the arts. In essence, it's not just a store; it's a catalyst for creativity and artistic expression within the local community.
MY STORY
As a single mom, I witnessed the cuts in funding to any art-adjacent activity (music, dance, art, theatre) when district-wide deficits occurred in the budget. Although I was working full-time while my children were young, I was also attending school, so I found it near-impossible to afford art-supplies. As an Art Teacher, I’ve seen first-hand how children's moods and attitude improve as they create art. During the first year of the pandemic I leared that many of my students did not have access to outside art materials nor anything in their homes that could be used to substitute for them, and that's when I began to recognize the need for an affordable art store. Through my master's degree in Liberal studies and research on community-based art projects and their effect on a city's economy and social cohesion, I saw the power of art in building communities.
